Hello and Welcome

My name is Rosemary Peel. I am an author, both mainstream and indie. I write mainly children's fiction although I do have several other ebook genres available; adult fiction, poetry, and factual books.

I paint as well as write although I find painting a relaxing hobby but writing an inborn compulsion.

Through this site I would like to introduce both myself and my writing.

Born in the 1940's whilst World War II still raged, I grew up in England in an era of austerity. Life was a constant struggle for my parents simply to put food on the table and keep a roof over our heads. In retrospect (and maybe nostalgia) I have come to appreciate that life was much simpler, much more family orientated and much less stressful then than now. The stress levels of the modern world seem to me to be driven by consumerism and a keep up with the neighbours outlook. Even the simple pleasures of birthdays and holidays don't have the same impact today, probably because everything is so easily available all year round. As I child I remember the thrill of a day trip to the sea side or the joy, after scrimping and saving to buy that special gift, of watching the delight on the faces of my loved ones when I gave it to them. These were simple pleasures indeed, but the memories remain with me. There were though things from the past that do not evoke pleasure in remembering. Times were less tolerent and understanding of people's differences. I am a dyslexic but the condition was not recognised as such in that less enlightened age. I come from an academically oriented background and still to this day can never shrug off the feeling of having let my family down by not attaining the academic heights that they expected of me.  My father did live to see my work in print and was truly proud of my achievement, Mum did not. She died two years before, almost to the day, that my first book was launched.

I began writing poetry and prose in early childhood although because of the dyslexia I was loath to show what I had written. I used to hide my effors away in a toy box under my bed and dreaded them being found and laughed at. But the urge to write was strong and eventually overcame the fear of ridicule. Poetry was my first love and I still find that I can express myself through this medium far better than I can in prose. Stories, particularly those for children, have always readily sprung into my head. Once an idea occurs it then develops independently as the characters take on a life of their own within my mind. It is only when I have got to know my characters intimately that I can begin to write the story.

On the next page, MY E BOOKS, you will find a small selection from my current offerings and on the following page, TASTERS, I present sample excerpts.
